A Woman Receives Peace

Based on Luke 7:36-40, 44-50

One day, one of the religious leaders invited Jesus to come eat at his house. A woman who had a very bad repu- tation heard that Jesus was there. While they were eating, she came into the room, carrying an expensive jar of perfume. She knelt behind Jesus and began to cry. As she cried, her tears fell on his feet and she wiped them off with her hair. She kissed his feet and poured perfume on them.

The religious leader saw all this and thought to himself, “If Jesus really were sent from God, he would know about all the bad things this woman has done.” Jesus knew what the man was thinking, and he asked him, “Do you see this woman? Since I entered your home, you did not give me water to wash my feet, but she has washed my feet with her tears and dried them with her hair. You did not greet me well, but this woman has greeted me well by kissing my feet and pouring perfume on them.

Then Jesus told the woman, “All the wrong things you have done are forgiven, and your belief in me has saved you. Go in peace.”
