The Broken Relationship is Restored

The Bible says that God is love.  He made people in his own image. When the first people disobeyed God and sinned, death entered the world. People’s relationship with God was broken. The Bible says that, “just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned.”  [Romans 5:12 NIV]

According to the Bible, every person is a sinner and walks in darkness. We all have a hard heart. “[We] are darkened in [our] understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in [us] due to the hardening of [our] hearts.” [Ephesians 4:18]

Because God loves us so much, he sent Jesus Christ to reconcile us to God. Jesus was born from a virgin and lived a sinless life. He healed the blind and the sick to show his love and prove he came from God. He died on the cross in our place, taking the punishment for our sins, and then rose from the dead on the third day. He is the only one worthy to be the mediator between us and God. The Bible says, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.” [1. Timothy 2:5]

When we confess that we are sinners and profess Jesus as our Savior, he cleanses our hearts from sin. The Bible says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”  [1 John 1:9] How can a person profess Jesus as Savior?  The Bible says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” [Romans 10:9-10]

Jesus Christ restores our relationship to God and makes us whole. He gives us new life. The Bible says that “ if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.” [2 Corinthians 5:17-18]

This new life from Jesus Christ is the start of our eternal life in heaven. The Bible promises, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  [Romans 6:23]

That is what the Bible says about our broken relationship with God and how we can be restored to peace with God through faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins.
